Queer Spaces, at the Whitechapel Gallery from April 2nd to August 25th 2019, focuses on the rarely seen archives of LGBTQ+ venues and social networks collated by University College London’s Urban Laboratory in addition to presenting artworks by contemporary art practitioners who have dealt with queer-related themes in their work.

This overview and these reflections on Latin American contemporary art will attempt to unpretentiously examine and tackle the problematics, misconceptions and stereotypes when trying to understand how the contemporary art from that region is perceived, particularly in Europe and in the United States. My reflections on Latin American contemporary art in this essay are greatly informed by research as well as the various conversations that I conducted with artists, curators, gallerists, museum directors and specialists.
